People say that the youthful days are always bittersweet, but maybe it's just bitter?
Kyouko Hori is a flashy high school girl, who, despite her ostentatious appearance, excels in academics and has a family-loving character. Izumi Miyamura is a bland high school boy, who, despite not wanting to stand out in class, secretly wears piercings outside of school and has a large body tattoo.
One day, Miyamura finds Hori's little brother injured and helps him back to Hori's house, where the relationship between Hori and Miyamura begins with Hori's discovery of Miyamura's secret.

Where it came from
Hori-san to Miyamura-kun began as a web manga created by HERO in 2007, serialized on their personal website. The story, which explores the contrasting public and private lives of two high school students, gained significant popularity for its grounded approach to romance and interpersonal relationships. This success led to the production of an original video animation (OVA) adaptation by Hoods Entertainment, which began releasing episodes in 2012.
The 2012 OVA series was notable for maintaining a distinct, rough-hewn aesthetic that remained faithful to the original web manga's character designs, differing significantly from the later, more polished 2021 television adaptation. While the animation style was unconventional by industry standards at the time, it was well-received by fans of the source material who appreciated the direct translation of HERO’s visual tone and the quiet, character-focused direction.
