Where it came from
Houkiboshi, which translates to 'comet,' served as the iconic ending theme for the long-running NHK anime series Bleach. Produced by NHK's affiliated broadcasting networks and released in 2005, the track was performed by the Japanese singer Younha. The song emerged during the height of the series' global popularity, capturing a melancholic yet hopeful tone that resonated deeply with the transition between intense battle sequences and the quiet resolution of the episodes.
The composition was crafted to reflect the thematic journey of the protagonist, Ichigo Kurosaki, blending J-pop sensibilities with a production style that felt both contemporary and nostalgic. Its reception was overwhelmingly positive, helping to solidify Younha's standing in the Japanese music scene and becoming a quintessential artifact of mid-2000s anime culture. The song is widely remembered by fans for its structural elegance and its ability to encapsulate the ephemeral nature of the show's underlying emotional arcs.
