Hozuki’s Coolheadedness 2: Part II

Hozuki’s Coolheadedness 2: Part II was produced by Studio DEEN and aired in 2018 as a direct continuation of the second season of the supernatural comedy anime series. Based on the manga by Natsumi Eguchi, the series chronicles the bureaucratic life of Hozuki, the capable yet cynical chief deputy to King Enma, the ruler of Japanese hell. The adaptation was designed to capture the dry, deadpan humor and the meticulous, folklore-inspired aesthetic of the original source material, emphasizing a workplace satire dynamic set within the unique framework of traditional afterlife mythology.

The production sought to maintain the visual consistency established in the earlier seasons while further fleshing out the expansive roster of comedic characters who inhabit the afterlife. Under the direction of Kazuhiro Yoneda, the animation style leaned into the manga’s distinct character designs and dark palette to reinforce the series' signature tone. Upon its release, the second part of the second season was received as a faithful expansion of the series, continuing to draw praise from fans of occult-themed comedy for its blend of historical Japanese legends and modern office-culture parody.
