Where it came from
How to Keep a Mummy, released in 2018, was produced by studio 8-bit as an adaptation of the popular manga series by Kakeru Utsuki. The narrative centers on a high school student who unexpectedly begins living with a miniature, supernatural mummy named Mii-kun, blending elements of slice-of-life comedy with gentle fantasy. The project was intended to offer a heartwarming and soothing viewing experience, tapping into the audience's appreciation for cute, anthropomorphic companions.
Kaori is credited as the director of this production, guiding the visual style to emphasize the expressive, minimalist character designs that defined the original manga. The series was generally well-received by audiences for its wholesome tone and the emotional bond depicted between the protagonist and his mythical pets. It stands as a notable example of the comfort-focused subgenre within modern animation, prioritizing character relationships and humor over high-stakes conflict.
