After the war, women have taken over ruling politics in the Chuo ward and have banned and destroyed weapons. This has caused men to fight through rap battles using Hypnosis Mics, which can be used to affect people's sympathetic nerves and influence their thought process. However, the legendary rap group, The Dirty Dawg, has split up into four groups, each representing a division of Tokyo, Japan and are engaging in territorial battles using words and the HypMics.

Where it came from
Hypnosis Mic: Division Rap Battle - Rhyme Anima was produced by A-1 Pictures and premiered in 2020 as an adaptation of the popular multimedia franchise created by King Records. The series follows a world where weaponry has been replaced by hypnosis microphones that influence the human mind, leading to rap battles between factions representing different city divisions. This narrative structure was designed to translate the project’s central conceit—music-driven character storytelling—into an episodic animated format.
The visual direction and character designs were crafted to emphasize the distinct aesthetic of each division, with A-1 Pictures focusing on high-energy performance sequences and stylised choreography. Upon its release, the series was received primarily by the franchise's established fanbase, serving as an expansion of the CD dramas and live stage shows. It is recognized for its unique integration of hip-hop culture within the traditional framework of the Japanese idol-style anime industry.
