Where it came from
I Want to Deliver Your Voice, released in 2017, was produced by Studio Madhouse in collaboration with MAPPA. The film was conceived as an original anime project directed by Toshiya Shinohara, known for his work on Nagi-Asu: A Lull in the Sea. The story explores themes of speech, silence, and the power of language through the perspective of a high school girl living in a seaside town, blending supernatural elements with a grounded character study about the connection between people and the words they choose to share.
The film's visual design aims for a soft, atmospheric aesthetic that reflects the coastal setting and the introspective nature of the protagonist's journey. With character designs by Hana Ishizuka, the production sought to create a contemplative tone that distinguished it from more action-oriented anime of the era. Upon its release, it was recognized by critics for its emotive storytelling and unique premise, contributing to Madhouse's reputation for exploring diverse narrative styles beyond traditional genre tropes.
