I wanna be!

I wanna be! is a short animated special produced by Studio DEEN, released as part of the promotion for the 2006 television anime series Fate/stay night. It was conceived as a lighthearted, comedic diversion from the high-stakes drama of the main series, offering fans a glimpse into the characters in a more relaxed, school-life setting. The production leaned into the 'chibi' aesthetic, a common stylistic choice in Japanese animation to shift the tone toward satire and character-focused humor.

The special serves as a meta-textual exploration of the franchise's popularity, utilizing the iconic character designs established by the studio for the main series. While Studio DEEN was known for its grounded approach to the Fate source material, this short was received as a playful supplement that allowed for character interactions that were otherwise impossible within the strict narrative constraints of the Holy Grail War. It remains a notable example of the supplementary content trends prevalent in the mid-2000s anime industry.
