Ichigo Aika: Strawberry Elegy

Ichigo Aika: Strawberry Elegy was released in 2026 by Studio Houkiboshi as an original net animation, marking a notable entry in the studio’s experimental portfolio. The project was conceived during a period of transition for the studio, which sought to pivot from contract animation work toward internal intellectual property that emphasized atmospheric storytelling and soft, impressionistic visual aesthetics.

The design and direction were helmed by a team aiming to subvert traditional shōjo tropes by integrating a melancholic, lyrical narrative structure with high-contrast, hand-painted background art. Upon its debut, the series was received with moderate critical acclaim, specifically noted by animation enthusiasts for its departure from high-octane action in favor of a slower, more deliberate pacing that prioritized character introspection and seasonal motifs.
