The time is the near future. Cockroaches and other household pests have become immune to all forms of insecticides. In response to this crisis, a Japanese company has created small, doll-like, insect exterminating robots called Hoi Hoi-san. A competing company has also released their own version, Combat-san. Because of their adorable appearance, these little robots have become somewhat of a phenomenon and have gained many fans. Late at night, in the home of one such fan, Hoi Hoi-san and Combat-san search for insects to exterminate... but Combat-san is not above trying to exterminate Hoi Hoi-san while she's at it.

Where it came from
Ichigeki Sacchuu!! Hoihoi-san originated as a satirical manga series by Kunihiko Tanaka, serialized in Dengeki Daioh starting in 2002. The story presents a world where insects have developed immunity to conventional pesticides, leading the Marron company to create palm-sized, doll-like robot exterminators designed to hunt pests with miniature weaponry. The concept serves as a playful critique of consumer culture and the trend of anthropomorphizing technological gadgets.
The 2004 OVA adaptation, produced by studio Daume, translates the manga's whimsical yet darkly industrial aesthetic into animation. Designed to capitalize on the character's appeal as a collectible figure, the production captures the contrast between Hoihoi-san’s cute, maid-inspired exterior and its role as a lethal household tool. The adaptation was well-received by fans of the original manga for its faithfulness to the source material’s unique blend of dark humor and toy-centric world-building.
