Once a century it is possible to acquire the legendary Pai: ten mahjong tiles that are rumored to be able to grant their possessor any wish. Many bizarre individuals are after the Pai, including a rabbit-shaped alien who wishes for "uniform" domination of Earth; a black magic-using dominatrix; a pop idol, who is really a witch, who wants to return to the magical world; a cyborg who wishes to be human; and a schoolgirl who is really a superhero. When they all track down the same monster that has one of the tiles, there is only one thing for them to do: since they can't all have the tile, they must fight it out!

Where it came from
Idol Fighter Su-Chi-Pai was released as a two-episode original video animation in 1996, produced by Studio Daume. It serves as an animated adaptation of the popular Idol Janshi Su-Chi-Pai mahjong video game series, which originated in the early 1990s. The production was intended to capitalize on the success of the games by placing the familiar magical girl characters into a high-energy, comedic adventure format that prioritized character charm over the complex mechanics of the source material.
The design of the characters reflects the aesthetic trends of mid-nineties anime, emphasizing vibrant, expressive features and colorful costume designs synonymous with the mahjong-themed magical girl genre. The animation was directed with a focus on lighthearted, fan-service-oriented storytelling, which resonated with existing fans of the gaming franchise. Upon its release, it was received as a modest but effective entry in the niche genre of game-to-anime adaptations, serving primarily as a visual companion piece to the interactive games.
