Where it came from
The IDOLiSH7 television series, which premiered in 2018, was produced by Studio TROYCA and directed by Makoto Bessho. The anime is an adaptation of the popular rhythm game developed by Bandai Namco Online, which launched in 2015. The series focuses on the formation and development of the titular idol group, navigating the complexities of the Japanese entertainment industry while balancing personal growth and team dynamics.
The character designs were originally created by Arina Tanemura, a celebrated manga artist known for her distinct, ornate aesthetic, and were adapted for animation by Kasumi Fukagawa. The production sought to balance the high-energy musical sequences with the dramatic, character-driven storytelling central to the franchise. Upon its release, the series was well-received for its earnest portrayal of professional aspirations and its strong emphasis on the bonds between the members of the idol unit.
