Where it came from
IDOLiSH7 Second BEAT! was produced by Studio TROYCA and aired in 2020 as the direct sequel to the initial anime adaptation of the popular Japanese rhythm game. The series continues the narrative of the idol group IDOLiSH7 as they navigate the complexities of the entertainment industry, focusing on the character growth and interpersonal dynamics that define the franchise. The production was directed by Makoto Bessho, who maintained the series' reputation for high-quality musical sequences and dramatic character development.
The visual design and animation direction were intended to capture the polished aesthetic of the original character designs by Arina Tanemura, translated for television by Kasumi Fukagawa. The series was well-received by fans of the franchise for its faithful adaptation of the game's second story arc, particularly for the emotional weight added to the vocal performances and the seamless integration of 3D dance sequences into the traditionally animated narrative flow.
