If Her Flag Breaks

If Her Flag Breaks, released in 2014, is a television anime series produced by the studio Hoods Entertainment. The project is based on a light novel series written by Takeya Mizukami and illustrated by CUTEG. The narrative centers on a protagonist who possesses the unique ability to visualize the 'flags'—or potential future outcomes—of those around him, framing his high school life through the lens of a romantic comedy that transitions into more dramatic territory.

The production sought to balance the visual tropes of mid-2010s light novel adaptations with a complex, branching storyline. While the series was noted for its unconventional shift in genre and stakes as the plot progressed, it met with a mixed critical reception. Viewers and critics often pointed to the chaotic pacing and the challenge of condensing the dense source material into a single season, though the show remains an interesting specimen of the light novel adaptation boom of that era.
