Where it came from
If I Could Become a Comet is a celebrated title produced by Studio Gohan, an independent animation house known for its focus on intimate, character-driven narratives. The project emerged during a period of experimentation within the studio, aimed at exploring the intersection of traditional cel animation and modern emotional storytelling, with a design philosophy centered on minimalist palettes and evocative, watercolor-inspired backgrounds.
The visual direction was overseen by the studio's core creative team, who sought to capture the transient feeling of adolescence and the desire for liberation. Upon its release, the work was noted by critics for its atmospheric pacing and restrained aesthetic, which distinguished it from the more commercial, high-energy productions of the era. It remains a respected example of the studio's commitment to poetic, medium-specific animation.
