Where it came from
Infinite Dendrogram is an anime adaptation based on the popular light novel series written by Sakon Kaidou. Produced by studio NAZ and released in 2020, the series explores the intersection of high-stakes virtual reality gaming and personal identity. The production aimed to visualize the complex mechanics of the 'Infinite Dendrogram' game world, a setting defined by its unique 'Embryo' system that evolves alongside the user’s personality and playstyle.
The character designs were adapted for animation by Masahiko Nakata, who sought to translate the intricate fantasy aesthetic of Taiki’s original illustrations into a functional visual language for television. Upon its release, the series became a notable entry in the 'isekai' and game-fantasy subgenres, drawing attention for its focus on the philosophical implications of artificial intelligence and the social dynamics of large-scale multiplayer platforms.
