Inferno Cop Specials

Inferno Cop, a 2013 original net animation series, stands as a hallmark of Studio TRIGGER's early experimental philosophy. Produced by the studio in its infancy, the series was designed as a low-budget, intentionally crude satire of action anime tropes. The special episodes, often bundled with home video releases or promotional events, continued the show's signature 'limbo' aesthetic, characterized by the use of static digital cutouts and wildly over-the-top narrative shifts.

The animation was helmed by director Akira Amemiya, who utilized the restrictive budget to lean into the absurdist, chaotic energy of the project. By stripping away traditional animation techniques, the team prioritized rapid-fire comedic delivery and surreal visual gags. Critics and audiences initially approached the work with skepticism, but it eventually gained a cult following for its uncompromisingly strange visual identity and its role in establishing the irreverent studio culture that would later define high-profile works like Kill la Kill.
