Interviews with Monster Girls

Interviews with Monster Girls, known in Japan as Demi-chan wa Kataritai, began as a manga series by Petosu before being adapted into a twelve-episode anime series by A-1 Pictures in 2017. The production was directed by Ryo Ando, who sought to emphasize a grounded, empathetic tone rather than the typical sensationalism found in the supernatural subgenre. The narrative centers on a high school biology teacher interviewing various demi-humans to understand their daily lives and societal integration, effectively blending lighthearted slice-of-life elements with thoughtful commentary on diversity and inclusion.

The character design for the anime was managed by Tetsuya Kawakami, who aimed to translate Petosu's distinct aesthetic into a soft, approachable visual style that mirrored the show's gentle pacing. Upon its release, the series was well-received by critics and audiences for its character-driven storytelling and its avoidance of common tropes associated with monster-themed media. It remains regarded as a notable entry in the modern seinen anime catalog, praised primarily for its focus on the mundane struggles of its cast rather than action-oriented conflicts.
