Where it came from
Iro wo Kuu Akuma, or The Devil Who Eats Colors, is a renowned shoujo manga series created by Miho Obana, serialized in the Japanese magazine Ribon starting in the late 1990s. The narrative follows a young girl named Aoi who encounters a mischievous demon, and it is celebrated for its blend of supernatural fantasy, school life drama, and Obana's distinctively expressive character art, which reflected the shift in stylistic trends within the Ribon aesthetic at the time.
The series is widely regarded as a significant work in Obana's bibliography, serving as an important follow-up to her monumental success with Kodocha. Critics and fans often note the series for its emotional depth and the way it explores complex themes of identity and human connection through a lighthearted, magical lens, helping to solidify the author's reputation for crafting stories that resonated deeply with teenage readers of the era.
