Where it came from
Iron Wok Jan! is a 2026 television adaptation based on the long-running culinary manga series by Shinji Saijyo. Produced by Studio TROYCA, the series revitalizes the intense, high-stakes atmosphere of the original source material, which centers on the arrogant but prodigiously talented chef Jan Akiyama. The production aims to modernize the aggressive, competitive cooking style that defined the 1990s manga, translating the chaotic energy of the original panels into a dynamic animated format.
The creative direction for this adaptation prioritizes TROYCA’s signature blend of fluid movement and detailed background art to emphasize the culinary craftsmanship. By focusing on the personal growth and confrontational kitchen dynamics of the protagonist, the design team seeks to reintroduce the series to a contemporary audience while maintaining the core appeal of intense shonen-style cooking battles. The project serves as a significant revival of a cult classic that helped define the competitive cooking genre in manga.
