Where it came from
Jiaonang Jihua: Qiji, also known as Capsule Project: Miracle, emerged as part of a collaborative animation initiative spearheaded by the Shanghai Animation Film Studio. Created during a period of creative revitalization for the studio, the project sought to bridge traditional Chinese aesthetic sensibilities with contemporary digital animation techniques. It serves as an experimental short-form narrative, functioning as a standalone piece that showcases the technical versatility of the studio's rising talent.
The visual direction of this ONA emphasizes a blend of fluid character animation and atmospheric world-building, reflecting an intent to push the boundaries of domestic independent animation. While the creative team focused on a lyrical and concise storytelling style, the reception was largely characterized by appreciation for its departure from standard episodic formulas. It remains recognized by enthusiasts as a noteworthy entry in the broader collection of Chinese anthology-style shorts.
