Jiaonang Jihua

Jiaonang Jihua, or Capsule Plan, is an ambitious anthology series produced by the Chinese streaming giant Bilibili. Launched in 2021, the project was designed to showcase the creative diversity and technical capabilities of China's burgeoning animation industry. By commissioning a variety of independent directors and studios to produce short-form narratives, Bilibili aimed to explore high-concept science fiction, surrealism, and traditional storytelling, effectively positioning the series as a domestic answer to international animated anthologies like Love, Death & Robots.

The series is noted for its eclectic visual language, as each episode features a distinct aesthetic dictated by its specific creative team. By providing a platform for experimental animation, the project sought to push the boundaries of CGI and hand-drawn techniques in Chinese animation. Upon release, it was received as a significant milestone in digital-first animation, earning praise from critics for its production value and its willingness to platform niche narrative styles that might not fit the constraints of traditional feature-length films.
