Kujo Jotaro is a normal, popular Japanese high-schooler, until he thinks that he is possessed by a spirit, and locks himself in prison. After seeing his grandfather, Joseph Joestar, and fighting Joseph's friend Muhammad Abdul, Jotaro learns that the "Spirit" is actually Star Platinum, his Stand, or fighting energy given a semi-solid form. Later, his mother gains a Stand, and becomes sick. Jotaro learns that it is because the vampire Dio Brando has been revived 100 years after his defeat to Jonathan Joestar, Jotaro's great-great-grandfather. Jotaro decides to join Joseph and Abdul in a trip to Egypt to defeat Dio once and for all.

Where it came from
The 1993 JoJo's Bizarre Adventure OVA series was produced by A.P.P.P. (Another Push Pin Planning) and marks the first animated adaptation of Hirohiko Araki’s long-running manga. This initial six-episode run focused on the third story arc, Stardust Crusaders, opting to jump straight into the middle of the narrative rather than beginning with the series' origins. By choosing to adapt the most popular and action-oriented portion of the manga, the studio aimed to capture the intensity of the supernatural Stand battles that had defined the series' success in the late eighties.
The design of the OVA is notable for its deliberate departure from Araki's signature colorful aesthetic, opting instead for a gritty, cinematic visual style that emphasizes heavy shadows and a more grounded, masculine character design. This stylistic choice reflected the trend of dark, mature-themed OVAs prevalent in the early nineties anime industry. While it was praised for its sophisticated animation quality and moody atmosphere, the adaptation was occasionally noted for its condensed pacing and deviations from the source material, yet it remains a significant touchstone for fans of the franchise’s history.
