Where it came from
Jubito originated as a student film project within the animation department of Tama Art University, a prestigious institution known for fostering experimental and narrative-driven animation. The film was conceived during a period when the university's program was emphasizing the intersection of traditional cel techniques and early digital composition, providing students with a platform to explore surrealist imagery and minimalist character design.
The production sought to subvert the conventions of short-form student narratives by prioritizing atmosphere over linear dialogue. The creative team aimed for a visual language characterized by textured backgrounds and rhythmic movement, drawing inspiration from independent Japanese animation movements of the early 2000s. Upon its internal release and subsequent exhibition in academic film festivals, it was noted primarily for its distinct tonal consistency and the technical proficiency of its student animators.
