Where it came from
Kakushigoto, adapted into an anime series by Studio Ajiado in 2020, originated from the manga of the same name by Koji Kumeta. The story centers on Kakushi Goto, a manga artist who creates crude adult-themed humor but obsessively hides his profession from his young daughter, Hime. The narrative blends slapstick comedy with poignant emotional stakes, exploring the complexities of fatherhood and the sacrifices made to maintain a family's innocence.
The animation design emphasizes a vibrant, nostalgic aesthetic that reflects the protagonist's internal struggle between his professional output and his domestic values. Studio Ajiado utilized a warm, detailed visual palette to distinguish the bustling, chaotic world of manga production from the tranquil life Kakushi attempts to curate for his child. Upon its release, the series was well-received by critics and audiences alike for its balance of dark, self-deprecating wit and genuine, heartfelt character development.
