Where it came from
The Kakushigoto promotional video was produced by Studio Shaft to build anticipation for the 2020 television anime adaptation of Koji Kumeta’s manga. Known for their distinctively stylized visual language, the studio employed a palette and compositional approach intended to mirror the author’s sardonic yet sentimental storytelling. The video functions as a stylistic bridge, highlighting the tension between the protagonist's professional life as a gag manga artist and his earnest desire to protect his daughter from the nature of his work.
The design of the promotional material leans heavily into the signature Shaft aesthetic, characterized by high-contrast linework and deliberate, architectural framing. This visual direction was overseen to ensure the transition from print to screen retained the sharp, satirical edge Kumeta is known for. Upon its release, the video was well-received by the existing fanbase for capturing the precise emotional tone of the source material while establishing the technical polish expected of a high-profile production.
