Where it came from
The KAKUSHIGOTO Theatrical Edition serves as a compilation and re-imagining of the 2020 television anime series, which was adapted from the manga by Koji Kumeta. Produced by Studio Ajiado and directed by Yūta Murano, the project was designed to distill the poignant story of Kakushi Gotō, a manga artist struggling to shield his young daughter from the reality of his profession, into a cohesive cinematic experience. The theatrical version weaves together familiar narrative threads from the series while adding new sequences that provide closure to the father-daughter relationship at the heart of the show.
The visual aesthetic maintains the distinctive, sharp-edged style characteristic of Kumeta's character designs, translated by Shūhei Yamamoto to ensure the emotional weight of the animation matches the comedic tone. Upon its release, the film was received as a sensitive tribute to the original series, praised by fans for its ability to balance the inherent absurdity of the gag-manga setting with a grounded, melancholy exploration of parenthood and artistic legacy.
