Where it came from
KamiKatsu: Working for God in a Godless World originated as a light novel series written by Aoi Akashiro and illustrated by Hangetsuban Sonsho before being adapted into a television anime by Studio Palette in 2023. The series was conceived as a subversive take on the isekai genre, focusing on a protagonist who finds himself in a world devoid of religious concepts and must cultivate a following for a capricious deity to survive.
The animation style became a notable point of discussion due to the production team's intentional integration of low-fidelity 3D assets and experimental visual shifts. While these stylistic choices were aimed at highlighting the absurdity of the narrative, they were received with mixed reactions, ultimately cementing the series as a cult curiosity within the 2023 seasonal anime lineup for its willingness to lean into unconventional, often jarring, aesthetic risks.
