Kamigami no Ki

Kamigami no Ki, or Chronicles of the Gods, was produced by Sotsu and released in 2016 as a series of short-form episodes. It was developed as a creative tie-in for the Sengoku-era strategy game Sengoku IXA, aiming to bridge the gap between the game's historical setting and animated storytelling. The series utilizes a distinct, stylized aesthetic that leans heavily into traditional Japanese woodblock print motifs, reflecting a desire to present a mythic, folklore-inspired vision of historical warfare.

The production was characterized by its minimalist visual language, which prioritized atmospheric storytelling over complex fluid animation. By blending these artistic sensibilities with the backdrop of the Warring States period, the studio sought to offer a contemplative, meditative experience for fans of the source game. Upon its release, it was noted primarily for its experimental visual direction and its unique role as an ancillary narrative experiment within the broader Sengoku IXA franchise.
