Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi: Kioku

Released in 2014 by Studio Madhouse, the Kamisama no Inai Nichiyoubi: Kioku OVA serves as a supplemental episode to the television anime adaptation of Kimihito Irie’s light novel series. The original series, which explores a world where God has abandoned humanity and the dead continue to roam, gained a dedicated following for its melancholy atmosphere and philosophical inquiries into life and memory. This OVA was produced to expand upon the narrative foundation established in the 2013 television run, providing a deeper look into the emotional resonance of the characters' journeys.

The production maintains the aesthetic hallmarks of Madhouse’s adaptation, characterized by a soft, ethereal color palette designed to contrast the grim premise of a world without afterlife. Led by the creative team behind the series, the project sought to provide a standalone vignette that highlights the central themes of grief and existence. Upon its arrival, the episode was received by fans as a contemplative companion piece that successfully recaptured the poignant, slow-burning tone of the source material.
