Cocotama are tiny gods born from the thoughts and feelings of objects that people use with great care. The fact that Cocotama wear part of the egg they hatch out of as underwear is proof that they are still apprentices. The Cocotama use a mysterious magic, and they train hard to be of use to humans and to become full gods. They live inside human houses and stealthily move around to help humans find things they have lost, although they make many mistakes.

Where it came from
Kamisama Minarai: Himitsu no Cocotama was produced by the animation studio OLM and premiered in 2015 as a fantasy-themed television series. The series centers on the concept of 'cocotama,' small deities born from the cherished feelings people hold for objects they use with care. This premise was designed to instill a sense of appreciation for everyday items in its young audience, drawing on elements of Japanese folklore concerning tsukumogami, or spirits inhabiting long-used objects.
The character designs were crafted to be highly marketable for toy lines, focusing on cute, stylized aesthetics that appealed to the target demographic of elementary school children. By framing domestic life through a magical lens, the series sought to balance educational themes of gratitude with the adventurous appeal of a secret companion story. It was well received upon release, anchoring a multi-year franchise that expanded into films, stage shows, and an extensive range of merchandise.
