Where it came from
The Kanokon Specials were released in 2008 as a companion series to the main television anime adaptation of the light novel series written by Katsumi Nishino and illustrated by Koin. Produced by studio Xebec, the project served as an extension of the supernatural romantic comedy series, offering supplementary content that adhered to the established aesthetic and narrative tone of the original broadcast.
The character designs were adapted for animation by Yoshinori Yumoto, who sought to translate the whimsical and often provocative visual style of the source material into the medium of anime. While the main series focused on the chaotic life of high school student Kouta Oyamada and the fox spirit Chizuru Minamoto, the specials were designed to provide lighthearted, episodic vignettes that were received as typical fan-service-oriented additions to a genre popular in the late 2000s.
