Kouta, a country boy who lives with his grandfather, is now moving to the city to attend high school. Changes come with his new home and new school, but nothing could have prepared the gentle young man for girls, specifically a bombshell fox spirit named Chizuru. As if her aggressive advances weren't enough, he also catches the attention of a frosty wolf spirit named Nozomu.
Kouta is dragged into supernatural events as a result of his contact with the two girls, and his school life only gets more chaotic by the day. But with a girl who gives "foxy" new meaning and another howling after him, things are looking up for his love life.

Where it came from
Kanokon: The Girl Who Cried Fox is a twelve-episode anime television series produced by the studio Xebec, which premiered in 2008. The series is based on the light novel collection authored by Katsumi Nishino and illustrated by Koin, originally serialized in the long-running Monthly Comic Alive magazine. The production emerged during a period of high output for studio Xebec, leaning heavily into the romantic comedy and supernatural harem tropes that were prevalent in mid-2000s anime adaptations.
The character designs and visual direction were aimed at capturing the lighthearted, ecchi-inflected aesthetic established in Koin’s original illustrations. While the source material enjoyed a dedicated niche following, the anime adaptation received a mixed critical reception. Reviewers often focused on its balance of absurd humor and supernatural fantasy elements, characterizing the show as a representative example of the studio’s attempt to appeal to fans of genre-specific light novel adaptations during that creative era.
