Where it came from
Kedamono-tachi no Sumu Ie de, released in 2015 by the studio GOLD BEAR, belongs to the niche genre of adult-oriented original video animation (OVA) common in the mid-2010s. The production emerged during a period when independent studios were increasingly focused on digital-first distribution models for adult anime, catering to a specific demographic of viewers interested in stylized character designs and atmospheric narratives that diverged from mainstream television standards.
The visual language of the project reflects the studio's attempt to emphasize character-driven sequences through a minimalist aesthetic. While the title is relatively obscure within the broader history of animation, it serves as a representative example of the compact, self-contained storytelling approach favored by small-scale studios like GOLD BEAR. Upon its release, it garnered interest primarily among dedicated collectors of adult animation who tracked the output of independent boutique labels.
