Where it came from
Kero Kero Keroppi no Christmas Eve no Okurimono was released in 1992 as part of a series of direct-to-video animations featuring Sanrio's popular frog character, Keroppi. Produced during a period when Sanrio was heavily expanding its media presence to complement its stationery and character goods, the OVA aimed to capitalize on the holiday season by presenting a gentle, family-oriented story focused on themes of kindness and gift-giving.
The production reflects the signature aesthetic of early 1990s Sanrio animation, characterized by soft color palettes, rounded character designs, and an emphasis on wholesome, moralistic storytelling tailored for young children. As with many Sanrio works from this era, it was primarily distributed through VHS and aimed to deepen the emotional connection between fans and the Keroppi brand, which had seen a significant surge in popularity throughout Japan and international markets during the early 90s.
