Kero Kero Keroppi no Bikkuri! Obakeyashiki

Released in 1996, Kero Kero Keroppi no Bikkuri! Obakeyashiki is a short animated film produced by Sanrio. It emerged during a period when the company was expanding the multimedia presence of its core characters, leveraging the popularity of Keroppi, the adventurous frog created by Sanrio in 1988. The film was designed to appeal to younger audiences by blending gentle, spooky themes with the established cheerful aesthetic of the Sanrio universe, fitting into the company's broader strategy of producing educational and entertaining shorts for theatrical and home video release.

The film was created by the internal Sanrio production team, who maintained a consistent visual identity that aligned with the character's signature bright colors and rounded, friendly design language. By situating Keroppi in a haunted house setting, the animators focused on playful, low-stakes tension that resonated with the intended preschool demographic. Upon its release, it became a staple of Sanrio's promotional catalog, contributing to the enduring marketability of the character throughout the late 1990s as a friendly mascot for children's media.
