Kero Kero Keroppi no Daibouken: Fushigi na Mame no Ki

Released in 1990, Kero Kero Keroppi no Daibouken: Fushigi na Mame no Ki represents a pivotal period in Sanrio's expansion into animation. As the company sought to capitalize on the massive popularity of their frog character Keroppi, they produced this film to broaden the character's appeal beyond stationery and merchandise, grounding him in a narrative adventure that solidified his role as a flagship Sanrio mascot.

The film was produced by Sanrio's internal animation division during a time when the studio was refining its aesthetic for younger audiences. The design of Keroppi, characterized by his simple, cheerful geometry, was adapted for the screen to maintain the whimsical and gentle tone consistent with Sanrio's broader brand identity. It was well-received by the target demographic of young children, effectively establishing Keroppi's world and setting the stage for future sequels and media appearances.
