Kero Kero Keroppi no Kero Kero House no Himitsu

Released in 1993, Kero Kero Keroppi no Kero Kero House no Himitsu is an Original Video Animation featuring Sanrio's popular frog character, Keroppi. Produced during the height of the character's global merchandise expansion in the early 1990s, the short was designed to deepen the narrative world of Donut Pond. These early animations served as a foundational element of Sanrio's multi-media strategy, aiming to transform static merchandise designs into relatable, personality-driven stories for younger audiences.

The production maintains the aesthetic conventions established by Sanrio’s animation team during this era, prioritizing simple, expressive character designs and gentle, moralistic storytelling. At the time of its release, the OVA was distributed primarily through home video rentals and direct sales in Japan, acting as an extension of the broader Keroppi brand which had become one of Sanrio’s most successful properties alongside Hello Kitty. The piece is remembered by fans as a nostalgic touchstone of 1990s character-led animation.
