"Let's go. In search of treasure" Nike, a punky outsider girl, runs through the city of the future! In a city where the transportation infrastructure has developed dramatically and walking is no longer necessary, Nike runs alone in her favorite sneakers. Her goal is to get sneakers from the legendary manufacturer "Dynameros", which can only be obtained on the black market. As Nike runs despite being chased by a horde of cyber police, a woman appears in front of her. That woman is none other than Sherry, the daughter of the president of "Fractal Walter", a major company that created the era. What kind of story will the encounter between these two opposing people produce?

Where it came from
Kicks and Punk was released as a promotional ONA by Nippon Animation during the late 2010s. The short was commissioned to showcase the studio's technical versatility and their ability to pivot toward stylized, music-driven digital animation while maintaining their long-standing reputation for character-focused storytelling. It serves as a brief but visually vibrant exploration of urban subcultures, utilizing a contemporary aesthetic that contrasts with the traditional cel-shaded styles often associated with the studio's historical catalogue.
The animation was conceptualized to merge rhythmic, punchy editing with character designs that emphasize fashion and kinetic movement. By focusing on a distinct color palette and high-energy transitions, the creative team aimed to appeal to a younger, digitally native audience accustomed to short-form content. Upon its release, it was noted for its polished execution, demonstrating how a legacy studio could successfully adapt its draftsmanship to the demands of modern web-based animation platforms.
