When the secret occult society, Shiromorishuua, sends a huge monster to attack Tokyo, ASY, a peace-keeping organization in Japan, retaliates with a Gousen (metal faery). ASY's Gousen annihilates the creature after driving it into open ocean. Although successful, a surprise attack follows. A girl, floating in midair and glowing with radiance, strikes with a beam of light. This girl is "Rouran." She knows neither her identity, her origins, nor why whenever she senses the Gousen or Kyoushi (reanimated corpses) she transforms into an avenging angel. As Rouran worries about her mysterious existence, Tetsuya kindly watches over her in Tokyo Arcadia, a settlement of expatriates and dissidents.

Where it came from
Kikou Sennyo Rouran was released in 2002 as a twelve-episode anime series produced by Starchild Records. The project was conceived as an experimental multimedia venture, blending traditional animation with a focus on distinct character aesthetics and lighthearted fantasy elements. It emerged during a period when production committees were frequently exploring niche, concept-driven stories aimed at cultivating loyal fanbases through unique visual identities.
The series is notably recognized for its art direction, which leaned heavily into the stylistic trends of the early 2000s, utilizing a blend of high-fantasy tropes and contemporary character design. While the series did not achieve mainstream crossover success, it remains a point of interest for collectors of Starchild Records' catalog. It is often analyzed by historians of the medium as a representative example of the era's mid-budget, creative-led television animation.
