Kimekoi! Takane no Hana to Osananajimi ga Kimatta Riyuu

Kimekoi! Takane no Hana to Osananajimi ga Kimatta Riyuu was produced by the studio Mary Jane and released in 2017 as an original video animation. The work reflects the studio's focus on character-driven adult animation within the specific landscape of the late 2010s independent production scene, where studios often adapted niche manga or original scripts for a specialized demographic. It represents a genre of storytelling that prioritizes established character archetypes, such as the distant, high-status 'takane no hana' and the childhood friend, to create condensed romantic narratives within a single-episode format.

The production style and visual direction associated with Mary Jane during this period were characterized by a reliance on traditional animation techniques intended to maximize emotional intimacy for the viewer. While specific credits for individual animators and directors on this project are often proprietary or obscure within the industry, the creative intent was consistent with the era's trend of utilizing familiar tropes to deliver efficient, stylized storytelling. Upon its release, the title circulated primarily among dedicated enthusiasts of the OVA format, serving as a representative example of the studio's technical output during that year.
