Strange "lifepods" have crashed in the western mountains, bringing with them supernatural beings previously found only in the realm of folk-lore and fantasy. Vampires walk the Earth, at war with Humanity an each other, driven by the most terrifying of genetic imperatives. Like wasps seeking a spider, they have come to this planet for only one purpose: to perpetuate their species.

Where it came from
Kimera, released in 1996, is an original video animation produced by Toho that stands as a distinct entry in the mid-90s direct-to-video market. Emerging during a period when Japanese animation studios were heavily experimenting with stand-alone sci-fi and horror narratives, the project aimed to capitalize on the aesthetic trends of the time, characterized by high-contrast character designs and atmospheric storytelling.
The animation was created during a transitionary phase for the industry, where studios often looked toward short-form OVA formats to showcase experimental visual styles without the constraints of a television budget. While it remains a niche title today, its production reflects the era's broader interest in bio-mechanical themes and dark fantasy elements that defined much of the independent animation output in late twentieth-century Japan.
