Where it came from
Kiteretsu Daihyakka, or Kiteretsu Encyclopedia, was produced by Studio Gallop and broadcast by Fuji TV beginning in 1988. Based on the manga by Fujiko F. Fujio, the series follows Eiichi Kitetsu, a young inventor who constructs various gadgets using the blueprints found in his ancestor's eponymous encyclopedia. It emerged during a period when the creator's works, including the globally recognized Doraemon, dominated the genre of whimsical, gadget-driven children's narratives in Japan.
The character design and visual direction adhered to the signature clean, rounded aesthetic characteristic of Fujiko F. Fujio’s studio. The series was designed to evoke themes of scientific curiosity and creative problem-solving, maintaining a lighthearted tone that resonated with viewers throughout its eight-year run. Over time, it gained status as a staple of Japanese television animation, celebrated for its continuity and its charming, imaginative approach to the life of a young inventor.
