Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo Special: Ryoutsu VS Nakimushi Idol!? Nihon Isshuu Dai Sugoroku Game!!

This special release was produced in 2005 to celebrate the enduring legacy of Osamu Akimoto’s long-running manga series, Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo, commonly known as Kochikame. As part of a multimedia expansion that moved beyond serialized chapters, this project took the form of a sugoroku—a traditional Japanese board game—themed around the series' central protagonist, the eccentric police officer Kankichi Ryoutsu. The game was designed to capture the frantic, comedic spirit of the franchise, pitting the chaotic Ryoutsu against a crying idol in a competitive race across Japan.

The design and artistic direction were heavily influenced by the established visual style of the Weekly Shonen Jump era, focusing on vibrant, expressive character illustrations that mirrored the anime adaptation's aesthetic. Released during a peak period for the franchise's commercial merchandise, the game was aimed at loyal fans who had followed the series’ shift from a neighborhood comedy to a cultural phenomenon. It was received as a nostalgic novelty, valued primarily by collectors interested in the expansive library of spin-off materials created throughout the manga’s forty-year run.
