Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo Special: Seton Tankentai! Sumidagawa no Chikai - Omoide no Shiroi Kujira wo Sagase!

Released in 2007, this special episode belongs to the long-running Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo franchise, commonly known as Kochikame. The series, originally created by Osamu Akimoto in 1976, centers on the humorous misadventures of police officer Kankichi Ryotsu in a local station in Tokyo. This specific production was crafted to broaden the scope of the established police comedy, steering the familiar cast into an adventurous, nature-oriented narrative reminiscent of the Seton animal chronicles.

The creative direction for this special focused on blending the traditional slapstick comedy of the Kochikame series with a more sentimental and episodic narrative structure. As part of a franchise that maintained a weekly publication for forty years, the special was designed to appeal to both long-time fans and families, offering a refreshing departure from the usual precinct-based hijinks. It was well-received as a nostalgic addition to the series, maintaining the distinct personality of the original manga while exploring thematic elements of mystery and discovery.
