Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo Special: Yukemuri Porori! 2001-nen - Kyoto no Tabi

Released in 2001, this special episode of the long-running Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo anime series served as a thematic departure from the show's usual setting in the Katsushika ward of Tokyo. Produced by Studio Gallop and based on Osamu Akimoto's celebrated manga, the special follows the series' iconic protagonist, Kankichi Ryotsu, as he embarks on a comedic journey to Kyoto. The production was part of an era where the franchise frequently expanded beyond standard episodic television to include longer features and travel-themed specials that leveraged the popularity of its core characters in new environments.

The character designs for this special remained consistent with the established aesthetic overseen by the animation directors at Studio Gallop, who maintained the expressive, slapstick style that defined the franchise since its anime debut in 1996. By shifting the narrative to the historic and scenic backdrop of Kyoto, the creative team aimed to juxtapose Ryotsu's abrasive, hyper-energetic personality with the traditional atmosphere of the city. The special was well-received by the existing fanbase, as it successfully integrated regional tourism themes into the series' signature brand of chaotic humor.
