Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo Special: Vacance wa Hageshii no ga Osuki!?

Released in 1998, this special serves as a unique entry in the expansive Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo franchise, commonly known as Kochikame. Created by Osamu Akimoto, the series began its long-running serialization in Weekly Shonen Jump in 1976. This specific special was produced during the height of the series' popularity, reflecting the lighthearted, episodic comedic style that defined Kankichi Ryotsu's chaotic tenure at the police station near Kameari Park.

The animation and narrative structure were designed to translate the frantic, slapstick energy of Akimoto's manga panels into a television format. Like much of the franchise's auxiliary content, it aimed to capture the charm of the series' grounded yet absurd suburban setting. Upon its release, it was received by fans as a quintessential example of the series' ability to balance character-driven humor with the playful, sometimes surreal, misadventures typical of the title character.
