Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo Special: Washi to Ore!? - Bokura wa Asakusa Shounen Tanteidan!

Released in 2008 as a special animated episode, this entry is part of the long-running Kochira Katsushikaku Kameari Kouenmae Hashutsujo franchise, based on the manga by Osamu Akimoto. The series, which began serialization in 1976, follows the misadventures of police officer Kankichi Ryotsu in the downtown district of Tokyo. This specific production was commissioned to celebrate the enduring appeal of the characters and their connection to local history, particularly the Asakusa area, blending the franchise’s characteristic slapstick humor with a detective-themed narrative.

The animation was produced by Gallop, the studio responsible for the series' transition from paper to screen. The design aesthetic remains faithful to Akimoto’s iconic character style, emphasizing exaggerated features and lively, expressive sequences. Upon its release, the special was well-received by fans of the series, serving as a nostalgic tribute that highlighted the show's ability to maintain its relevance and tone decades after its inception.
