Koro wa Yane no Ue

Koro wa Yane no Ue, or Koro on the Roof, was produced by Studio Ghibli in 2001 for exclusive screening at the Ghibli Museum in Mitaka, Tokyo. It was created as part of an initiative by Hayao Miyazaki to develop short films that would provide a unique, immersive experience for museum visitors, deliberately bypassing a traditional commercial release. The short serves as a whimsical showcase of the studio's hand-drawn animation techniques, focusing on the charm of everyday domestic life rather than the grand narrative arcs of their feature films.

The story follows a young girl who discovers a small, magical creature named Koro, which resembles a living stuffed animal. The animation reflects the characteristic Ghibli attention to environmental detail and character expressiveness, aiming to evoke a sense of childhood wonder. As a non-commercial project, it remains a rare piece of the studio's portfolio, valued by enthusiasts for its intimate scale and its role in defining the specific artistic atmosphere of the Ghibli Museum's Saturn Theater.
