Where it came from
The Kubbe Gachapin and Mukku figures are based on the iconic characters from the long-running Japanese children's television program 'Hirake! Ponkikki,' which debuted on Fuji TV in 1973. Gachapin, the green dinosaur, and Mukku, the red yeti, were designed to be lovable, adventurous companions, and over the decades, they have evolved from simple puppets into massive pop-culture staples in Japan, appearing in countless advertisements, variety shows, and merchandise lines.
These specific figures produced by Echoes capture the minimalist, rounded aesthetic often associated with Japanese designer toys. The design emphasizes the distinctive physical traits of the duo—Gachapin’s orb-like eyes and Mukku’s propeller-shaped head tuft—distilling their television presence into a collectible, static form. They are widely recognized as quintessential examples of the crossover between classic children's entertainment branding and the modern 'soft vinyl' toy movement that emphasizes tactile, character-driven design.
