Larva

Larva emerged in 2011 as a flagship production from the South Korean animation studio TUBAn. Created as a non-dialogue, slapstick comedy series, it focuses on the chaotic lives of two insect protagonists, Yellow and Red, residing in a sewer grate. The series was designed to transcend language barriers through physical humor and expressive, slightly grotesque animation, aiming for a broad demographic that included both children and adults.

The character designs, characterized by their high-energy movements and exaggerated facial expressions, were developed to capitalize on the success of short-form digital media. The show gained significant international traction through online distribution and syndication, evolving from short television segments into a global brand that encompasses feature films and extensive merchandising. Its reception has been marked by its persistent ability to find audiences across diverse cultures, largely due to its reliance on universal situational comedy rather than localized scripts.
